Hi there! My name's Tim, and
I'm Your English Cheerleader! 😄

Right now, you may be asking yourself questions like, "Why does this guy call himself a cheerleader? Aren't only women cheerleaders? What do cheerleaders even have to do with English???"

And if you are, I'd be happy to explain! 😊

If you’ve been learning English for a while, you might know that a cheerleader is a person who smiles, dances, and does plenty of cartwheels and splits at sporting events in the United States to cheer on their sports teams and fill stadiums with joy, excitement, and positivity.

Unfortunately, I CANNOT do a cartwheel or a split to save my life, but I still call myself a cheerleader because I believe that one of my best talents as a teacher is my ability to motivate and cheer my students on with tons of energy, enthusiasm, and positivity in every lesson.

I discovered that I had this talent after I started teaching Spanish and French at an all-girls Catholic high school back in 2019, where so many of my students told me that they loved my energy, positivity, good vibes, and engaging lessons.

All of this positive feedback made me realize that my biggest superpower as a teacher is, in fact, my ability to use my energetic, cheery personality to make learning a dynamic, engaging, and joyful experience in the same way that cheerleaders energize crowds with their enthusiasm, charisma, and impressive gymnastics.

My students and I in my first year of teaching! (I swear they're real people and not emojis, I just didn't want to show their faces without their permission!)

At this point, you may be thinking something like, “It’s great that you have a cheery personality and all, but how will that actually help me to achieve my goals as an English learner?”

That’s a great question, and my answer to it is simple! As your English cheerleader, it’s not my goal to magically solve all of your problems so you can speak confidently and fluently; instead, it’s my goal to help you become your OWN English cheerleader by giving you all of the tools you need to solve your own problems.

As an English learner, you probably struggle with one or more of the following problems: you often have trouble speaking the language due to a lack of practice, you’re afraid of making mistakes and often feel anxious when speaking, and you feel like you don’t know the specific grammar or language you need to communicate effectively in real-world situations.

Believe me... I know these problems all too well because I've struggled with them myself as a Spanish learner of 15 years and a French learner of almost 10. Learning any language is HARD.

And because I know these problems well, I’ll work with you as your English cheerleader to address each one!

Together, we’ll change the negative self-talk that happens in your head when you make mistakes into positivity, start building language learning habits that will allow you to make significant progress on your own, and practice using common idioms, phrasal verbs, and functional language that will allow you to show up as your best self in English in any situation.

And as your English cheerleader, my goal is to make you feel supported, seen, understood, and confident in your ability to achieve your goals EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. But don't forget that, as we're doing all this, there will ALWAYS be room for plenty of laughs, smiles, and silliness too 😄

By the end of our time together, you’ll have the tools and confidence that you need to cheer yourself on, make consistent progress by yourself, and FINALLY reach your own English goals without anyone else’s help.

Thanks to my CELTA certification and nearly six years of experience teaching three languages, I've been able to help people from all over the world to finally make their voice heard in English, and I would feel honored to have the opportunity to help you do the same. ❤️📣

And just one more thing...

If you’re male and the idea of becoming your own English cheerleader feels odd or too girly to you, just remember that cheerleading began as an all-male activity back in the early 1900s! That’s right, only men did it back when it first became a thing. So, the truth is that being your own cheerleader and source of support is for EVERYONE, no matter who you are!

And now, here are some quick fun facts about me!

I was born on an island! My life started on Long Island in New York, but I grew up in southeast Pennsylvania, where you’ll find tons of cows, farms, and communities of Amish people who use horses to get around!

I started studying Spanish in 2009 and liked it so much that I eventually decided to major in it in college, which is where I started studying French too in 2015! In my senior year of college, I also had the opportunity to study abroad in Salamanca, Spain, which is where I am in the photo above!

My number one FAVORITE hobby in the world is playing video games, and I especially love Pokémon, rhythm games like Just Dance, Project Sekai, and Guitar Hero, and Nintendo-exclusive games like Mario Kart and Mario Party.

So far, I’ve been to three countries: Spain, France, and Ireland. My absolute DREAM, however, is to visit Japan one day!
